A young New Yorker, Frey, is transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athia. In search of home, Frey must use her newly acquired magical abilities to cross sprawling landscapes and battle monstrous creatures.

Frey Holland is unexpectedly transported from New York City to the beautiful land of Athia, and finds herself trapped there. A mysterious, sentient bracelet appears on her arm, which grants her the power to cast powerful spells and navigate the vast terrain of Athia. Frey gives her new golden companion the name "Cuff" and begins her journey to find a way back home.

Frey soon discovers that the once-thriving land of Athia was ruled by benevolent female leaders known as Tantas, but it was destroyed by a catastrophic event called the Break. The Break turned animals into beasts, men into monsters, and turned lush landscapes into four dangerous realms. The remaining Tantas now rule as corrupt and insane sorceresses in the center of their shattered domains.

Unaffected by the Break and eager for answers, Frey agrees to aid the remaining citizens of Athia, who see her as their only hope. Frey's journey through this dangerous and unknown land will take her to the heart of corruption, where she must fight monstrous creatures, face the powerful Tantas, and uncover secrets that will reveal something much deeper within her.
